SERVICE LEARNING EXPERIENCE APPLICATION IN INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE FOR UNDERGRADUATES

Abstract

This paper, presents a study of undergraduate students' projects, as a form of service learning experimental study, which is the practice of incorporating community service into the academic curriculum. Where undergraduate students in Pharos university, Faculty of Arts and Design, Interior Design and Furniture department, 8th semester, academic year: spring 2014/2015, were asked to redesign and renovate Alexandria university faculty members club, after having lectures concerning multipurpose spaces concepts, and Learning how to solve spaces of integrating and overlapping functions. Then implementing what have been studied on the given project by applying the design process steps and procedures, and Presenting plans, sections, execution drawings and perspectives, finally having these projects evaluated publicly and professionally. As a result a mutually beneficial partnership arises for both students and society, while developing the students' skills to plan, implement, evaluate, and solve design problems as a sort of breaking the barriers between the students and labour market to prepare them for their practical life.
